Sergeant Major Brian A. Bruyere

Sergeant Major Bruyere was born in Buffalo, New York and raised in Akron, New York. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1991 and attended recruit training in Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. In December 1991 he then reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. He was then transferred to Motor Transport School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 3521.

In June 1992, upon completion of school, Private First Class Bruyere reported for duty to Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group in Okinawa, Japan. He was assigned to Motor Transport Platoon as a Motor Transport Maintenance Mechanic. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in September 1992.

In June 1993, Lance Corporal Bruyere transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion, First Marine Division, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California as a Motor Transport Maintenance Mechanic. In December 1993, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and reassigned as the Motor Transport Platoon Maintenance Shop Chief. In October 1994 he took part in a deployment to Al Jubal, Saudi Arabia to participate in Operation Vigilant Warrior where he was assigned to Maritime Prepositioning Force Ship, MV Hauge. He returned from this deployment in November 1994 and resumed duties as Motor Transport Platoon Maintenance Shop Chief. In January 1995, he attended Advanced Diesel Mechanic course at Motor Transport School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he earned the MOS of 3522.

In May 1995, Corporal Bruyere transferred to General Support Maintenance Company, 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was assigned to Support Platoon where he served as an Advanced Diesel Mechanic. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December 1995. In January 1996 he was reassigned as the Platoon Sergeant. In April 1999, Sergeant Bruyere was Honorably Discharged from active duty. In November 2008, Sergeant Bruyere reenlisted in the United States Marine Corps and returned to active duty.

In December 2008, Sergeant Bruyere received orders to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was assigned as a Patrolman for the Provost Marshalls Office. In November 2009, he was reassigned to Watch Commander at Marine Corps Air Station, New River, North Carolina. In September 2010 he took part in an Individual Augment Billet and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan where he was assigned to North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training Mission Afghanistan, Headquarters Company where he served as a Vehicle Commander and Gunner. In February 2011, he returned from his deployment and resumed duties as Watch Commander. In April 2012, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In August 2012, Staff Sergeant Bruyere transferred to Headquarters Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Smedley D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan. He was assigned to the Provost Marshalls Office, Military Police District North where he served as a Watch Commander.

In August 2013, Staff Sergeant Bruyere transferred to Headquarters Marine Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia. He was assigned to Marine Forces Command, Command Operation Center where he served as a Senior Watch Officer and Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Command Operations Center. 

In April 2016, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor School with class 3-16. In July 2016, Staff Sergeant Bruyere transferred to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for duty where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In November 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2018, he was transferred to Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Chief Drill Instructor. In December 2018 he transferred to Support Battalion, Special Training Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as the Company First Sergeant until July 2019.

In August 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Bruyere transferred to the Provost Marshal's Office Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as an Operations Chief until June 2020, when he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.

In June 2020, First Sergeant Bruyere was transferred to 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division and assumed the duties as the Golf Company First Sergeant where he served from June 2020 to January 2023. While serving as the Golf Company First Sergeant, he deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the United States Ship Kearsarge from March to October 2022. In January 2023, First Sergeant Bruyere transferred to Headquarters and Service Company serving as the Company First Sergeant until his promotion to Sergeant Major in April 2024.

In June 2024, Sergeant Major Bruyere was transferred to Recruiting Station New York, 1st Marine Corps District and assumed the duties as the Recruiting Station New York Sergeant Major in July 2024.

Sergeant Major Bruyere's personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of third award, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
