Major Andrew Carlson

Andrew B. Carlson is a native of Asheville, North Carolina and graduated from A.C. Reynold High School in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from NC State University in 2015. 2ndLt Carlson commissioned via the Platoon Leaders Course Seniors in 2015.

In January 2016, 2ndLt Carlson reported to Recruiting Station Raleigh, Officer Selection Team prior to checking into The Basic School in March 2016 and he attended the Infantry Officer's Course 1-17.

In January 2017, 2ndLt Carlson was reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines. 2ndLt Carlson served as a Platoon Commander for Company I from January 2017 to June 2018. As a platoon commander he deployed to Okinawa, Japan on UDP, he participated in Cobra Gold 2018, Freedom Banner 2018, and KEMP 2-18. From June 2018 to January 2020 1stLt Carlson served as the Executive Officer for Company I. In June 2019 1stLt Carlson deployed on UDP to Okinawa Japan and to Darwin, Australia as the Marine Rotational Forces - Darwin Force Enhancement. February to May 2020 Capt Carlson served as the Company Commander for Company I.

In May 2020, Capt Carlson was assigned to Recruiting Station San Diego. From May 2020 to June 2021, Capt Carlson served as the Operations Officer; from June 2021 to June 2023, he served as the Executive Officer of RS San Diego.

In June 2023 Capt Carlson reported to and attended Expeditionary Warfare School (AY-24) where he was a distinguished graduate.

In May 2024 Capt Carlson reported to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines; he served as a Company Commander, Company F. From October-November 2024 he deployed to Jordan in support of Intrepid Maven 25-1.

In March of 2025 Maj Carlson reported to Second Marine Division to serve as the Current Operations Officer before deploying on a Joint Individual Assignment to Security Assistance Group – Ukraine from July-December 2025. Upon redeployment Maj Carlson assumed the role of Training Officer.

In June of 2026, Maj Carlson reported to Recruiting Station where he currently serves as the commanding officer.

Major Carlson has attended the Marine Advisor Course, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, and the Legal Officers Course. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-and-Chief Commendation Medal.
