Gunnery Sgt. Joshua Roadcap receives a bag of Iwo Jima sand from Howard Bernstein prior to the wake and burial of his father, Sam Bernstein, at Temple Beth AM, Dec. 30. Bernstein was a former Marine during World War II where he participated in the battle of Iwo Jima, taking some sand home with him. Although leaving the service in 1946, he remained proud of his service and for being a Marine. The Marines of Recruiting Substation Brockton, Massachusetts, volunteered to assist with the funeral. Roadcap is the staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge of RSS Brockton.
