Sergeant Major Christopher M. Perkins

Sergeant Major Christopher M. Perkins reported to MCRD San Diego on August 24th 1998. Upon Graduation on November 10th 1998, he was ordered to report to Marine Combat Training School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, CA. Graduating in December 1998, Sergeant Major Perkins received orders to NAS Pensacola to attend Basic Aviation Maintenance School in order to become an AV-8B Power Plants Technician. He graduated from a follow on “C” school in May of 1999.

Sergeant Major Perkins then reported to VMA-311 aboard MCAS Yuma, AZ in May of 1999. In 2001 Sergeant Major Perkins was promoted to Corporal while on the 15th MEU, then subsequently what became Operation Enduring Freedom.  In December of 2002 he was promoted to Sergeant.  In January 2003 Sergeant Major Perkins deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In April of 2005 he received orders to VMA-542 aboard MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  In September of 2006 he deployed with the 22nd MEU.

Sergeant Major Perkins reported to DI School in July of 2007. He graduated and was assigned as a Drill Instructor with 3rd Battalion, India Company where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He served as a DI, EDI, SDI and Chief Swim Instructor during this tour. In October of 2010 he received orders to VMA-231 aboard MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  Sergeant Major Perkins deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 with VMA-231.

Sergeant Major Perkins reported to Quantico, VA in May 2013 and served two cycles as a Sergeant Instructor at OCS.  He then served as an Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at Norwich University in Northfield, VT in support of the NROTC Commissioning program, serving during the summers as a Senior Enlisted Advisor at CORTRAMID East aboard Camp Lejeune, NC.  He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant July 2014.

Sergeant Major Perkins reported to VMA-223 on MCAS Cherry Point, NC in August 2016. He served as the Maintenance Control Chief until his selection to First Sergeant.  He received orders to 1st Battalion 7th Marines in April of 2018.  He deployed for SPMAGTF-CR-CC in 2019 and again in 2021 supporting MRF-D.  In November of 2021 he was selected to his current rank and received orders to RS Boston.

Sergeant Major Perkins' personal awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, a Navy Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars.
