Major Courtney L. Thompson

Major Thompson currently serves as the Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Boston.  She has performed in this capacity since January 2024.

Major Thompson graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and was commissioned in August 2013 through the Officer Candidate Course.  After completion of The Basic School and Marine Corps Engineer School, then Second Lieutenant Thompson reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 where she served as the Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander, Engineer Company.  When the Squadron deployed as the Logistics Combat Element for Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force - Crisis Response - Africa 15.1, Second Lieutenant Thompson served as the Security Cooperation Team Leader in Uganda as an advisor in engineering and logistics operations for the Uganda Peoples' Defence Force.  Upon return from deployment, First Lieutenant Thompson was assigned as the Combat Engineer Platoon Commander, Engineer Company, and subsequently served as the Executive Officer, Airfield Operations Company. 

In June 2017, First Lieutenant Thompson transferred to Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where she earned a Master's Degree in Operations Research, graduating with distinction.  After graduation in June 2019, Captain Thompson reported to Operations Analysis Directorate, Combat Development and Integration to serve as an operations research analyst.  In July 2021, Captain Thompson reported to 9th Engineer Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, where she served as the Company Commander, Bridge Company until its deactivation in April 2022.  Captain Thompson subsequently became the Company Commander, Engineer Support Company, where she served until her transfer in June 2023 to Headquarters Battalion G-4, 3d Marine Division to serve as the Division Engineer.  In December 2023, Major Thompson reported to Recruiting Station Boston.

Major Thompson was the recipient of the Military Operations Research Society Stephen A. Tisdale Graduate Research Award and the Navy League Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement while at Naval Postgraduate School.  Her personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
